Introduction to Korean Cultural Center

Hawaii Korean Cultural Center

Introduction Video

The need for a Korean Cultural Center

The history of Korean immigration to the United States began in Hawaii. In addition, the early Koreans who immigrated to Hawaii lived in hardships that were difficult to express in words, but they generously donated the money they had saved through blood and sweat for their country's independence. We must honor the pioneering and patriotic spirit of the early immigrants, pass on our traditions to future generations, and promote the newly reborn Korean Hawaiian culture to the world.

Immigrants from other countries who came to the United States around the same time as us have cultural centers where they pass on and promote their culture, traditions, and history. There is a Chinese Cultural Center in Chinatown, Japan has two cultural centers including the Okinawa Cultural Center, and the Philippines also has a cultural center. The fact that we, who have had 120 years of immigration history, have yet to establish a proper cultural center is a shameful story that can only be discussed when we are alone.

Achieve intermediate goals

The cultural center construction project, which began in 2007, laid the foundation for the construction of the cultural center by purchasing and remodeling the building at 3075 Kalihi St. in 2015. Now, all we have to do is move this building to a place where we can easily access and use it, and our dream will come true.
